“Virtuality
& Interactivity I”

Importing technology and exporting culture was one of the
main premises of “Virtuality & Interactivity I”,
curated by Prof Franz Fischnaller, organized and produced
by F.A.B.RI.CATORS.
“Virtuality & Interactivity I” is the
international exhibition of digital arts and applied research
of MEDIARTECH’98 [Digital Renaissance], an annual
international multimedia show dedicated to technological
research, cultural heritage visual and performing arts,
Financed by Tuscany Hi Tech Network and promoted by the
region of Tuscany/Italy.
“Virtuality & Interactivity I” took place
in the suggestive underground “Octagonal Grotto
Rooms” of Fortezza da Basso. I hosted interactive
installations, digital pieces, mixed reality platforms,
virtual reality applications, robotics pieces, and research
projects in the fields of arts, science, music, dance,
neurology, nature, cultural heritage, architecture, design,
theatre, history and literature. The works were produced
by a large variety of international authors and artists.

“Virtuality & Interactivity II” is the international
exhibition of digital arts and applied research of MEDIARTECH’99
[Digital Renaissance], an annual international multimedia
show dedicated to technological research, cultural heritage
visual and performing arts, Financed by Tuscany Hi Tech
Network and promoted by the region of Tuscany/Italy.
The main priorities of "Virtuality&Interactivity
II" were to educate, inform and create awareness
about topics relating to new systems of communication
and their support of human activity and society, emerging
technology and new art forms, interactive technology applied
to cultural patrimony, interactive installations, electronic
art, virtual heritage and applied research.
"Virtuality and Interactivity II" hosted artist,
authors, producers, designers, researchers, scientists,
events, universities, labs, interactive science centers,
museums, digital production houses, and select institutions
and cultural entities working on cutting edge projects
and key research projects from Europe and around the world.
It also featured individuals, teams, institutions and
groups creating, developing and actively participating
in the evolution and development of Digital Media assuming
the challenge to make it a reality.
Part of the exhibit explored the sensuality of new arts
and the experience of breaking down the frontiers of twentieth-century
traditionalism. The exhibition featured provocative and
interactive installations of innovative digital works,
and cutting edge pieces from diverse fields of art, culture,
music, science, virtual heritage, technology and research.
