To
succeed in a competitive, fast-growing field, students of digital
media and interactive
computer technology need technical skill, artistic knowledge,
creativity, innovative concepts, efficient production methods,
a capacity to develop and manage projects, and the ability to
work with interdisciplinary teams.
I am committed to the integration of design, art, culture, and
entertainment with technology, emphasizing the programs of technological
investigations applied to design, culture art and entertainment,
along with the integration of scientific and cultural projects.
My philosophy of education has the following goals: to share the
knowledge and experience I have acquired during my many years
as a producer, project manager, designer, artist, curator and
researcher: to integrate theory and practice: to inculcate technological
know-how and engender creativity: to facilitate an interdisciplinary
process of learning that leads students to the production of works
that give expression and represent students’ abilities and
creative aptitude.
As
an artist, designer and teacher actively engaged in research and
production, I am a three-career professional: a working artist,
designer and educator.
As
a working artist, I am a life-long learner, involved in an ongoing
process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement
of my skills. I explore, juxtapose and integrate new media tools,
technology, art and design with innovative concepts, personal
aesthetic, and a keen awareness of maintaining equilibrium between
creativity, fantasy, technology, efficiency and human interaction..
I am continuously striving to innovate, improve, deepen, renew
and refine my artistic expression. In doing so, I explore a variety
of media, techniques, technologies, new tools, aesthetic approaches
and style in traditional and contemporary [digital] forms, building
competence in multi-disciplinary implementation across the fields
of art, design, graphics and communication.
As
a working designer, my work focuses on the integration of four
main areas: Architecture, Design, Art, Technology and Entertainment.
Through the use of cutting edge media technology, electronic media,
engineering developments, and advanced communication technology,
my aims in creating pioneering projects, and constructing new
forms and innovative solutions in architecture and design, range
from urban habitats, landscaping, multi-user recreational and
tourist destinations, and high-tech intelligent multi-purpose
buildings, to architectonic solutions with challenging technological
features and new forms of entertainment technology, including
digital entertainment and a futuristic model for the hospitality
industry and business.
As a working educator, it is fundamental that I maintain on-going
growth in my creative research and expression, continuing to develop
a knowledge base, skills and methodologies essential to being
an effective, stimulating and inspiring professional in education.
By
focusing and achieving a meaningful equilibrium between both professions,
I am able to juxtapose two dynamic processes and expand both my
professional teaching and artistic development.
I
believe efficient teaching artists should bring to their classroom
artistic skills, and creative competence, derived from the same
energy and focus a dedicated artist gives to the ongoing growth
of their own creative expression. This energy and dedication should
be complimented by strong organizational and coordinating skills,
detail- and multi-task oriented, with a demanding learning standard,
and an eye on current arts education research in various theories
and models.
I
seek ways to integrate, the following ideas, among others, in
my teaching and coursework related to Art and Technology, Interactive
Art, Electronic Media and Electronic Visualization in Art at each
instructional level that I teach, from freshmen to graduate students,
in preparing them to become creative producers:
To think, relate and act creatively while remaining realistic
To sharpen capacities, key artistic and technical skills
To guide the development of each student’s specific research
interests
To develop and focus the skills needed to produce innovative ideas
and projects
To solve problems with a flexible and prompt approach
To persevere in developing working methodologies
To work effectively with interdisciplinary, team-based projects
To improve interpersonal interaction, communication, managerial,
and presentational skills
To become a good team player, open, flexible, energetic, and competitive
To integrate
technology, tools, techniques and creativity in original ways
To design innovative and interactive experiences and virtual environments
using digital technologies and interactive design
To explore conceptual derivations and sharpen creative skills
when developing virtual reality, digital media, interactive computer
technology, narrative and interactive design works
To implement a more aesthetic interpretation of digital content,
focusing on original techniques of representation, perspective,
rhthm, poportion composition, balance, structure, space, light,
symmetry, harmony, and depth
To conceive of innovative ideas, solutions, projects, and interactive
installations by exploiting the potentials of new technologies
To measure accomplishments and levels of innovations
To implement successful methods of production
To accept mistakes and correct them
To complete high quality works/applications on time
To think human!
In
my academic working experience, I have been committed to these
goals in both graduate and undergraduate programs. My duties have
included instruction, graduate critiques, thesis-related activities,
development of specific projects and research, production of creative
works, and undergraduate supervision and advising.
I
establish collaborations and opportunities within labs, production
centers, various art venues, and museums, and at international
festivals and events. In community colleges and universities,
I have created partnerships and collaborations between university
academic programs and other programs within school systems.
During
the creation of projects, I advise students to help provide orientation
and context for their concepts, ideas, and modes of visualization
and realization. I have provided multiple opportunities for students
to actively participate and present their work and demonstrate
their artistic concepts, at various art venues, international
festivals and events. By encouraging student visits to program-related
activities, universities and the art and technology programs benefit
from promotion and projection while students gain exposure and
experience.
In
addition to teaching, organizing, and establishing collaborations
and program opportunities, I coordinated promotional materials
and video demos for college programs and I assisted in recruiting
students.
